Doug Woodruff is originally from Rock Spring, Georgia, the youngest of four children. After completing his BA degree in music at Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, TN, and post graduate work at the Hochshule fuer Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna, Austria, he spent several years teaching music, German, and mathematics but then transitioned into the public safety arena.

Doug joined the Walker County Sheriff’s Department and served as a law enforcement officer until his 1993 enrollment in the University of Georgia School of Law. At UGA Law he was an Honor Court Justice as well as the president of the law school fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta, where he spearheaded multiple community service projects. Following graduation and the bar exam, Doug spent a little over four years in private practice focused on health law, business law, and civil and criminal litigation but then moved to the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office where he served as an Assistant District Attorney handling a wide variety of cases ranging from gambling prosecutions to child molestations and from violent crimes and burglaries to misdemeanors and traffic offenses.

In 2005 he joined the newly-created Public Defender’s Office for the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit where he most recently served as the Chief Assistant until leaving to fulfill a Governor’s appointment.

In July of 2016 Doug was appointed by Governor Nathan Deal as the Solicitor-General of the newly created Catoosa County State Court where he is currently serving. Doug is in his third term as a member of the Board of Governors of the State Bar of Georgia. Doug has always been an active trial attorney and has tried everything from speeding cases to murder cases from both sides of the courtroom.
