Job Summary: This position is responsible for overseeing and participating in the cleaning and maintenance of Catoosa County buildings and facilities. This role ensures that custodial tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and according to established standards. The Lead Custodian provides guidance to custodial staff, monitors performance, and serves as the point of contact for day-to-day custodial operations.
Job Duties:
- Assign daily cleaning duties to custodial team members based on facility needs and team schedules
- Train new custodians in cleaning procedures, safety protocols, and the use of equipment and chemicals
- Monitor and inspect work to ensure cleanliness standards are met consistently
- Provide feedback and guidance to custodial staff to maintain productivity and morale
- Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and restroom sanitization
- Clean windows, walls, furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces as needed
- Collect and dispose of trash and recyclables according to building guidelines
- Refill supplies in restrooms and cleaning stations (e.g., soap, paper towels, toilet paper)
- Identify and report maintenance issues such as broken fixtures, damaged flooring, or plumbing problems
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and storage of cleaning equipment and supplies as well as monitor and order supplies as needed
- Follow all safety guidelines, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals and use of PPE
- Assist in emergency cleanups, including spills, weather-related incidents, and biohazard situations
- Communicate regularly with custodial supervisor regarding scheduling, supply needs, and staff performance
- Maintain records of completed tasks, supply inventory, and incidents
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to improving custodial processes
- As assigned, performs other duties and tasks deemed necessary for the efficient operation of the Maintenance Department
Education and Experience:
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license
- Minimum 2–3 years of custodial experience, with at least 1 year in a leadership or senior role
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and sanitation practices
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
- Able to work effectively in a teamwork environment and/or independently
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in custodial operations in educational, medical, or commercial settings
- Basic proficiency in written and spoken English
- CPR/First Aid certification (if applicable to the facility)
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety standards
