Job Summary: This position is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of county road signs. An incumbent in this position may be designated “Sign Technician II.”
Job Duties:
• Installs, repairs, and replaces signs, posts, and pavement markings
• Ensures compliance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
• Operates computer program to design and print signs; performs all other aspects of the sign making process
• Evaluates roads to determine the best location for signs in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
• Inputs sign location information into database
• Complete locate requests prior to installing signs
• Maintains inventory of signs and materials; requests purchases as needed
• Installs work safety zones; flags traffic at work sites
• Operates hydraulic rammer and post hole driver to install signposts; operates hydraulic crane
• Processes work orders
• Assists with the installation of traffic data collection equipment
• Performs other related duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• More than one year of related experience required
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of road sign installation, repair, and maintenance
• Knowledge of safety principles and practices
• Knowledge of Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices standards
• Knowledge of work order/asset management software
• Knowledge of sign design software
• Skill in the operation of job-related equipment and hand tools
• Skill in the operation of as assigned vehicle
• Skill in oral and written communication
