Job Summary: This position is responsible for participating in fire suppression and other emergency response activities involving the safe operation of emergency vehicles.
Job Duties:
- Participates in fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical responses as needed using the appropriate techniques and equipment
- Drives and operates a variety of emergency vehicles safely in emergent and non-emergent conditions
- Operates a variety of specialized tools and equipment
- Ability to position and operate apparatus for effective water supply and fireground operations
- Conducts apparatus inspections and ensures proper maintenance of equipment, vehicles, buildings, and grounds and provides documentation
- Completes a variety of reports
- Participates in training exercises and continued education; maintains required certifications
- Assists in public relations and fire safety education activities
- Conducts fire prevention and pre-plan inspections
- Performs related duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Possession of or ability to obtain valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated
- Certified Firefighter I and Firefighter II
- NPQ Fire Apparatus Operator (or equivalent certification)
- EMT-B preferred (or ability to obtain within 18 months of hire date utilizing our internal EMT courses or a self-pay, third-party program)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Knowledge of firefighting tactics, hydraulics, and pump operations
- Ability to operate emergency vehicles safely and effectively under all conditions
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs
- Skill in the effective communication of ideas through oral and written communications
- Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions
- Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports
