Board of Commissioners Seeking Applicants for Three Boards

The Board of Commissioners of Catoosa County is seeking applicants for the following Boards:

• Planning Commission (3-vacancies; 3-year term)

• Tax Assessors Board (1 vacancy; 4-year term)

• Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Region One Planning Board (1 vacancy; 3-Year term)

CATOOSA COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION

This advertisement is to notify all individuals who would like to seek appointment to the Planning Commission to submit a resume outlining their qualifications.

The Planning Commission supervises the operation of the Catoosa County Department of Planning and Zoning. The Planning Commission advertises all changes to the Zoning Ordinance of Catoosa County and conducts public hearings as required under the Zoning Ordinance and the laws of the State of Georgia. The Planning Commission makes recommendations to the Board of Commissioners with respect to planning and zoning matters.

All members of the Planning Commission shall be residents of Catoosa County, Georgia, above the age of eighteen (18) years, and shall be registered voters of Catoosa County. Preference shall be given to applicants who have experience in the study of, or practice in, the field of land use planning or real property transactions.

IRS Regulations require members of County Boards to be compensated as part-time employees and their compensation reported on a W-2. All board members will need to complete an I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form, a Form W-4 (Federal Income Tax Withholding Certificate), and a Form G-4 (State of Georgia Withholding Allowance Certificate).

CATOOSA COUNTY BOARD OF TAX ASSESSORS

This advertisement is to notify all individuals who would like to seek appointment to the Board of Tax Assessors of Catoosa County, Georgia to submit a resume outlining their qualification.

The Board of Tax Assessors is charged with the duty to investigate diligently and to inquire into the property owned in the county for the purpose of ascertaining what real and personal property is subject to taxation in the county and to require the proper return of the property for taxation. The Board of Tax Assessors is required to investigate to determine the value of any property upon which taxes have not been paid as required by law. The Board of Tax Assessors is required to assess against the owner the full amount of taxes which have accrued on the property and have not been paid at any time within the statute of limitations. The qualifications for appointment to the Board of Tax Assessors are as follows:

(1) The applicant must be at least 21 years of age

(2) The applicant must make his residence in Catoosa County within six months after taking the oath of office as a member of the board.

(3) The applicant must hold a high school diploma or its equivalent, (an individual who has held an equivalent responsible position of employment for a period of five years shall not be required to meet the high school education requirement provided in this paragraph)

(4) The applicant must have at least one year experience in appraisal-related work or successfully complete 40 hours of approved appraisal courses and pass an exam taken either prior to appointment or within one year after appointment, may be substituted for this experience requirement.

In addition, no member of a county Board of Tax Assessors shall be eligible to hold any state, county, or municipal office during the time he serves as a member of the Board of Tax Assessors. Each applicant must be willing to complete the educational requirements of O.C.G.A. § 45-5-291, which requires that each member of the Board of Tax Assessors complete at least 40 hours of approved appraisal courses during each two years of the member’s tenure on the Board of Tax Assessors.

REQUEST FOR CANDIDATES FOR APPOINTMENT TO THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF BEHAVIORAL HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITES REGION ONE PLANNIG BOARD

The Board of Commissioners of Catoosa County, Georgia is seeking candidates for one (1) appointment to the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Region One Planning Board. Any person who desires to serve on this Region One Planning Board should submit a resume setting forth their qualifications to serve. Each candidate may be asked by the Board of Commissioners to be interviewed for the position and candidates must be a resident of Catoosa County, Georgia and above the age of eighteen (18) years.
